The OVDevelopment Corporation was founded in January 1993 in response to numerousrequests from local businesses, faith-based institutions and organizations thatneeded qualified Grant Writers to respond, on their behalf, to city, state andfederal grant request for funds so that they may better service the needs oftheir local community.
The OVDevelopment Corporation is comprised of enthusiastic qualified professional'swith a vast background of experience in education, training, and employment.Their combined experience and knowledge, in their respective fields, creates ablend of 30 years of dedicated service to Hartford's low-income, economicallydisadvantaged community through: (1) Training geared to prepare constituents toacquire meaningful employment, (2) Education to help assist individuals inacquiring a high school diploma or their GED, and (3) Assisting individual’s findingsuitable housing.
ThisGroup consists of a Director, Assistant Director, Vocational Instructor, andtwo Trainers.
TheDirector has an extensive background in the administration of non-profitemployment, education and training programs. She is adept at buildingproductive relationships with community employers to further the organization'sgoals and she has also been productive in researching, writing, and managingcity, state and federally funded grant proposals.
TheAssistant Director has for the past thirty-five years worked statewide in Urban Cityneighborhoods. He worked for the Urban League of Greater Hartford for sixteenand a half years as Director of the Labor Education Advancement Program (LEAP).In this position he turned many "deferred dreams" of young AfricanAmerican men, women and other disadvantaged individuals into reality, helpingthem to create career employment and business opportunities in the Building andConstruction Trades through Apprenticeship Training, Hartford Police OfficerTraining, Hartford Postal Services Training and many other related career areas
TheVocational Instructor is certified by the State of Connecticutand has taught for 20 years at Prince Technical Vocational School. He has also managed and supervised theconstruction of buildings and improvements on numerous projects including butnot limited to work performed for the New York School System, Grand CentralStation, Science Building for the Western Connecticut State College, HarlemHospital and many other related experiences.
TheEducational Instructor Trainer is a certified instructor who has worked in theHartford School system for the past ten years. She adept at working in adiverse environment and maintains the philosophy to foster within each studentthe motivation to reach his/her potential in spirit, mind and body. Thisindividual has also had experience in planning, directing coordinating andcarry out policies and procedures in all phases of non-profit organizationaladministration.
